In an example of high tech cooperation between universities in India and China, the Manipal University of Karnataka today signed a high technology partnership agreement with one of China’s top technology institutions.

The Manipal University, a private educational institution, has entered a partnership deal with the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT).

This is the first instance of collaboration involving high tech cooperation between universities in India and China, said Prof Madhav Das Nalapat, Honorary Director of Manipal University, who signed the agreement with Wangying, Director, International Student Centre of the BIT.

BIT is among China’s top technology teaching institutions where students from a number of countries, including Pakistan and other Asian countries, are enrolled, he said.

The agreement includes exchange of graduate, undergraduate students and academic personnel, cooperative research and development and exchange of academic and scientific materials and publications.

The Manipal University plans to sign a similar agreement with Nanjing Aeronautical University for the exchange of faculty and students to study courses such as Robotics and Nano Technology, he said.

Last November, Manipal University signed comprehensive partnerships with Tianjin University and Shanghai’s Tongji University to work out collaborative programmes with Chinese academic institutions.
