In the first phase of placements at IIT Madras this year, 786 students got offers from various companies. The highest salary offered was $210,000 a year (to work overseas) and Rs 48.68 lakh (to work in India).
The first phase of the placement season started on December 1 with 231 companies participating. Over 1,400 students registered for the placements.
Over 900 offers were made in the first phase.
The second phase started on January 16, according to an IIT-M press release.
Eight students received offers of over $125,000 a year while 35 received offers over Rs 20 lakh.
The release said that four companies offered over 15 offers to IIT-M students and the highest bunch offers made by a company was 27.
While the mechanical department received the most number of placements with 145, the Computer Science Department was the most placed with 90 per cent of their students placed in various companies.
Lt. Col. Jayakumar, Deputy Registrar of Students and Placements at IIT Madras, said that the modified placement strategy of inviting the companies offering international placements in the 'graveyard' session on November 30 and December 1 has worked well for the Institute's students.
Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, said "each one of our students who walks into the campus comes with a dream and we are charged with the responsibility of directing their energies towards fulfillment of this dream."
