The University of Hyderabad has constituted a committee headed by the Dean, Students' Welfare, to examine all backlog Ph.D cases. The university will shortly announce a process by which all research scholars who have not been able to either de-register or re-register within the prescribed time-frame, can apply for a suitable resolution of their cases.
This one-time clearance of long-pending PhDs in the university will likely open up slots for fresh admissions in various schools and departments, after which the final intake for the next academic year will be notified. It may be recalled that UGC Regulations 2016 for admissions to M.Phil and Ph.D had mandated limits on how many research scholars each faculty member can have at any given time, depending on their respective ranks, according to a release.
