Five events to watch out for today

Employees and officers of the Income Tax Department are to observe a nation-wide strike today to press for filling up of vacant posts. The government’s tax collection targets were hampered by inadequate personnel, the Joint Council of Action of Income Tax Associations, an umbrella body of income tax employees and officers, has informed.

The Air Force will today celebrate its 83rd anniversary. The occasion will be marked by an air display by various aircraft at the Air Force Day Parade-cum-Investiture Ceremony at Air Force Station Hindan (Ghaziabad).

DeGolyer and MacNaughton, a US-based consultancy appointed to examine the continuity of reservoirs, will submit its report to the oil ministry today. Thousands of schools in Tamil Nadu could remain closed today if the Joint Action Council of the Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Associations decides to go ahead with its plans to hold a state-wide strike. They have been holding protests in support of several demands, including regularisation of jobs, for the past six months.
