About nine crore voters will cast votes today for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Today's polling will also bring to close the process of electing legislators for the Assemblies in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Counting for all four states and one UT will take place on May 19.

Health minister JP Nadda will meet state health ministers and other officials in New Delhi today to discuss the way forward in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling making National Eligibility cum Entrance Test compulsory for admission to medical and dental colleges.

The Aam Aadmi Party will gherao Punjab chief minister Parkash Badal's residence in Sangrur today to protest against the ₹12,000 crore food scam in the state. The AAP has sought a Supreme Court inquiry into the scandal. Badal has said the move would be an undemocratic and forcible act.

Micromax will launch yet another smartphone in the Canvas series. The phone, to be priced under ₹10,000, will compete in the same space as Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s and Lenovo K4 Note.

The bypoll to Palair Assembly seat of Khammam district in Telangana will be held today. Thirteen candidates are contesting for the seat after Congress MLA from the constituency Ramreddy Venkat Reddy passed away in March. The results will be declared on May 19.
