Five things to watch out for today

The Bombay High Court is to resume hearing on a key plea by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The petition challenges the recommendations of the fare fixation committee, which had allowed a hike in fares for the Mumbai metro service. The panel had given the nod for fares up to ₹110 for the service which runs from Versova to Ghatkopar.

An executive committee meeting of the Sahitya Akademi will today decide the fate of awards returned by protesting authors. Several eminent writers have returned their award protesting against the alleged intolerance in the country, triggering a row.

A Delhi court will resume hearing on the Energy and Resources Institute Director-General Rajendra K Pachauri’s alleged sexual harassment case today. Pachauri, who headed TERI for more than 30 years, was accused of sexually harassing a 29-year-old female researcher in his think-tank. He denied the allegations.

YU fans have reasons to rejoice today. The gadget maker is all set to unveil the Yutopia, its flagship smartphone, in India. Adding to the anticipation the company has promised to launch ‘something special along with Yutopia’.

Employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from today if the government does not hike the employees’ salaries by 25 per cent. Unions have already submitted a memorandum of their demands to the State transport minister.
