Premium cars maker Honda Motor has appointed Gaku Nakanishi as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Cars India (HCIL). According to the company, he will take charge from April 1.

The announcement comes consequent to the management changes announced annually by Honda Motor Co (Japan).

“Nakanishi will take over from Yoichiro Ueno, who moves to New Business Strategy Division, Business Development Supervisory Unit in Honda Motor Co for accelerating formulation of new business strategy and pursuit of open innovation in future mobility,” the company said in a statement.

Ueno, who joined in April 2016, was instrumental in fortifying the premium brand positioning of Honda in India, the company said, adding that he spearheaded the introduction of several premium models in India, including BR-V, Accord Hybrid, New City and WR-V, and laying the foundation for launch of new models, including all-new Amaze, all-new CR-V and comeback of the Civic, which are coming this year. Nakanishi has been President and CEO of Honda Automobile (Thailand) since 2015 and has been associated with Honda Motor for almost 30 years.

He has vast experience in the automobile industry, having worked in several international markets including North America, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, and has worked with overseas division for CIS, West Asia and Africa and Asia Oceania regions.

Meanwhile, Honda also announced that Masayuki Igarashi will assume the position of Chief Officer for Regional Operations (Asia and Oceania) at Honda Motor and President and CEO of Asian Honda Motor.

He remains an Operating Officer of Honda Motor Japan, a position he has held since 2017.

Shinji Aoyama, the current Operating Officer and Chief Officer for Regional Operations (Asia & Oceania) at Honda Motor and President and CEO of Asian Honda Motor, will be Managing Officer and Vice Chief Officer for Regional Operations (North America) at Honda Motor.
