Uttar Pradesh reported a voter turnout of 60.03 per cent in the 7th and the last phase of polling on Wednesday. This is likely to go up marginally as people were still waiting in lines to cast their votes for the 40 Assembly constituencies in seven districts which went to the polls.

During the 2012 Assembly elections, these constituencies had reported a voter turnout of 57.56 per cent.

Manipur, which saw the second and last round of polling in 22 Assembly constituencies in 10 districts, reported a voter turnout of 86 per cent in 75 per cent of the polling stations for which voter turnout figures were available on Wednesday. “There is no communication with almost 25 per cent of the polling stations where polls also took place on Wednesday. Therefore, the voter turnout from these areas will be known in a few days when the poll parties return,” Sudeep Jain, Director-General, Election Commission, said.

During the 2012 Assembly polls, these constituencies had reported a voter turnout of 79.29 per cent. Polling in both Uttar Pradesh and Manipur passed off peacefully officials said adding that there was no poll boycott in Manipur.

In Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi, the constituency which Narendra Modi represents in Parliament, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur and Jaunpur were among the seven districts which went to the polls on Wednesday.
