India on Wednesday summoned Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Syed Haider Shah in order to lodge a complaint against repeated incidents of ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC).

Shah was summoned at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) where the government expressed "grave concern" and lodged a "strong protest", said an official statement.

The government said incidents of repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistan side at the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) have resulted into "several fatalities and casualties" on the Indian side among civilians and security forces personnel.

The Government also registered its strong protest on the mutilation of the body of an Indian soldier by a terrorist who escaped from the LoC, it added.

The Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan was also conveyed the government's expectation that Pakistan will not take any step "inimical to peace" along the LoC and IB and to the security of India.

Meanwhile, during the day reports surfaced that Pakistan has expelled two Indian High Commission officials posted in Islamabad while India expelled four of their staff working at the Pakistan High Commission here over suspicion of espionage.
