Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday met former chief minister Siddaramaiah to work out a strategy to save the JDS-Congress coalition government from collapsing.

Kumaraswamy, who was scheduled go on a pilgrimage to Sringeri in Chikmagaluru, drove straight to Siddaramaiah’s house hold a discussion with Congress leaders — Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara, KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, KPCC working President Eshwar Khandre, and Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar.

This sudden move comes after principal opposition — the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attempt to ‘poach’ MLAs from JD(S) and the Congress.

Siddaramaiah, who is also JD(S)-Congress co-ordination committee chairman, took the lead to negotiate and discuss strategies with the Chief Minister for the coalition government’s survival.

The meeting is also held under the instruction of Congress president Rahul Gandhi. He asked his party members in Karnataka to save the coalition government at any cost by keeping the flock together.

According to party members, today’s meeting was mainly to devise a strategy on preventing the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from switching sides. The meeting also took stock of the political situation in the State.

A separate mechanism to be in place to receive constituency related work requests and as to how to address grievances of MLAs.

The coalition will put up joint candidates for forthcoming Legislative Council elections and make MLAs commit or assign them important positions at the earliest to prevent them from switching sides.

Siddaramaiah lashed out at BJP by tweeting, “Our Government is stable; none of the @INCKarnataka MLAs has gone to Mumbai. @BJP4Karnataka is trying to lure our MLAs by offering 100 times the money @narendramodi promised to deposit in everyone’s account. Our MLAs have shared all the details with the party.”

Meanwhile, few senior MLAs of JD(S) wrote a letter to KR Ramesh Kumar, speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, against the BJP resorting to inappropriate actions and to curb its illegal activities.
