The Moodbidri-based Alva’s Education Foundation (AEF) will conduct ‘Alva’s Pragati-2015’, the annual mass placement drive, at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district on June 20-21.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Saturday, M Mohan Alva, Chairman of AEF, said that this is the sixth edition of ‘Alva’s Pragati’, and nearly 250 companies from various sectors and 20,000 candidates are likely to participate in the two-day event.

The main objective of this drive is to create opportunities for students in rural areas who lack opportunities and information about job avenues. This platform was primarily created for this purpose six years ago.

He said that 38 companies participated in the event when it was started six years ago. Last year’s Alva’s Pragati witnessed the participation of 216 companies and over 18,000 job aspirants. Job offers were given to more than 3,760 students in last year’s event.

Recruitment drive

Vivek M Alva, Managing Trustee of AEF, said that many companies are looking for students with degrees such as BSc, BCA and BHM this year. In addition to this, there is good demand for those who have completed ITI, diploma, nursing and pharmaceutical courses.

Almost 40 of the companies from manufacturing sector, who will be participating in the two-day event, are looking for ITI students. Buses would be provided to ITI candidates from their respective institutes in the district to the venue on both the days, he said.

Stating that there are good opportunities for students with BSc qualification, Vivek Alva said many companies would be specifically coming to Moodbidri to recruit BSc candidates.

Accommodation will be provided to outstation candidates participating in this drive. Last year more than 150 candidates from outside Karnataka participated in the placement drive, he said.

‘Alva’s Pragati’ gives facilities such as classrooms, and place for conducting aptitude and written examinations, he added.
