Power transmission losses in the state are targeted to be brought down to 15 per cent from the current 17.2 per cent level, Avtar Singh Nijjer, the newly appointed member of Advisory Committee of Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission, said on Saturday.

He was speaking at a ‘Sanman Samaroh’ organised at nearby village Palahi in his honour for becoming the member of the power panel.

Also a Secretary of National Rural Development Society (NRDS), an NGO for rural development, Nijjer said owing to various corrective steps taken in Punjab, the transmission losses in the state were already less than the national percentage of 22 per cent.

“However, the target was to reduce these to 15 per cent from the present 17.2 per cent,” he added.

Nijjer said, “By reducing power transmission losses, improving power generation and supply, the consumers can be saved from further financial burden. The Regulatory Commission was committed to safeguard the interests of consumers as well as the economic viability of Powercom.”
