The 40th edition of Chennai Book Fair will be held from January 6 to 19 at St George Anglo Indian School.
The fair, organised by Book Publishers and Sellers Association of South India (BAPASI), will feature 700 stalls and over 10 lakh titles, according to a press release. Anticipating higher usage of credit and debit cards post demonetisation, BAPASI has tied up with City Union Bank and will install over 50 Point of Sale machines.
G Olivannan, Treasurer, said, “We usually install close to 10 PoS machines every year. But this time we are installing around 50 to help smaller publishers and people who do not have them.” Visitors can also make use of the ATM machine that will be available inside. Alternatively buyers can get change worth ₹500 and ₹2,000.
Tickets to the fair can be bought online this time through an app, which was developed by Chennai-based technology solutions provider Lokas. Tickets priced ₹50 will be valid till January 19 for an individual. For ₹100, a family of four can visit the fair during the entire time period.
Apart from Tamil and English books, books in regional language such as Telugu, Sanskrit, Malayalam and Kannada will be available this year.
