Bihar Assembly on Fiday witnessed an animated discussion over law and order situation with the Opposition led by BJP alleging that the state was returning to “jungle raj”, a charge negated by the government.

The House witnessed a two-hour special discussion over Bodh Gaya serial blasts, police firing in Bagha, Maoist attack in Aurangabad and prevailing law and order situation on a motion of BJP MLA Usha Vidyarthi.

Opposition BJP and RJD traded charges on Nitish Kumar-led government of loosening grip over law and order situation due to chief minister’s “over engagement” in saving his chair.

They separately walked out of the House. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not present in the House.

While an aggressive opposition continued pillorying the treasury bench, the government asserted there was rule of law in the state and reeled out figures to prove that there has been decline in cases of dacoity, kidnapping, murder and rape since BJP went out of the government and so far.

Initiating the discussion, leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav said that since the time BJP left the government, in a small time of one-and-a-half month Bihar has witnessed spate of crime including serial bomb blasts at famous Buddhist shrine of Bodh Gaya, Maoist attack in Aurangabad and a rise in cases of abduction, rape and dacoity.

Yadav observed that the chief minister was “betraying” the faith of the citizens who had voted NDA to end “jungle raj” (of RJD for 15 years) and alleged that it seems the state was returning to the same “jungle raj“.

“The government has lost both sakh (reputation) and dhak (authority) in post split period and the CM has lost control over crime situation as he is busy luring MLAs of other parties to save his chair,” he said amid thumping of desk by BJP legislators.

RJD Legislature party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui said his party had been saying from the beginning that law and order situation has been deteriorating ever since Nitish Kumar came to the power.

He took a potshot at BJP also saying till June mid they were claiming “Ram rajya” in Bihar under NDA but after been thrown out by the Chief Minister, they claim crime graph is rising.

“Nitish Kumar government has gone into ICU and we wish it does not go on ventilator as in such a condition chances of survival is negligible,” Siddiqui said.

Congress and CPI, which had bailed out Nitish Kumar government in trust vote, also criticised the JD(U) government over poor law and order situation.
