Glendale Estate is set to launch the retail sale of its high end – Authentic Green Tea. The company is planning to launch the green tea on October 30 at Taj Coromandel in Chennai.
K Gopalkrishnan, Executive Director, SGP Exim Pvt Ltd and Director of Glenworth Estate and Waterfall Estate told Business Line that the product has not been launched anywhere else till date. The company is looking to tie up with hospitals and large institutions to market its green tea.
Stating that the green tea from the estate is flavoured with naturally blooming jasmine, Mr Gopalkrishnan said “we call it authentic green tea because the liquor is very light, light greenish yellow in colour, pleasant to taste without the bitter taste of regular green teas. This tea can be brewed three times,” he added.
Apart from the green tea, the company is planning to introduce more variants of high end teas in black, green and Oolong tea categories in the retail market, the Director said.
The estate, located at an altitude of 1650 metres to 2120 metres above Mean Sea Level (MSL) is managed by Glenworth Estate, a closely held company.
Glendale Estate comprises of three gardens constituting a total planted area of 525 hectares, with yield levels exceeding 3000 kg of made tea per hectare.
“Glendale produces about 2 million kg of tea of which about 2 lakh kg is in the form of green tea. One-eighth of green tea produced is in the speciality category and it is this speciality tea that we are proposing to launch. The teas would be packed in 50 gm packs and sold at an MRP of Rs 395 per pack,” he said.
The factory is one among those producing Orthodox black tea, green tea and speciality teas in South India.
“We have been primarily catering the niche markets covering the US, UK, Russia, Poland, Germany, Japan, China, Taiwan and many more,” Mr Gopalkrishnan said.
The Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Preetha Reddy is expected to launch the product, while the Executive Director of Tea Board, Coonoor R Ambalavanan is to inaugurate the function slated for October 30 at Taj Coromandel in Chennai.
