The heavy rains in the last 48 hours, buffeting Mumbai and Thane district have dramatically increased water levels in lakes, which supply water to the Mumbai city. Additional rains in the catchments areas can take care of the city demands for 34 days.
Current water levels in the reservoirs are at about 5 lakh million litres, which can supply water to the city for next 134 days.
Across the city 20 per cent water cut has already been imposed on domestic user by Municipal Corporation of Grater Mumbai. Industrial and commercial establishments have to put up with 50 per cent water cut.
