Over 25.75 lakh families are being benefited every month from the government’s scheme of distributing iodised salt through fair price shops in 89 tribal-dominated blocks of Madhya Pradesh.
Under the scheme, the BPL/APL and Anyodaya category card holders are being given iodised salt at a subsidised cost of Re 1 per kg, official sources said today.
Aimed at providing better health facilities to the people living in tribal areas, the government has now decided to provide ISI mark refined iodised high quality salt to the beneficiaries under the scheme, they said.
Every year, the government will now spend Rs 22 crore as subsidy for providing iodised salt to the people in these areas, sources said, adding that from this year it would be provided to 28,52,719 families holding ration cards in the state.
