The Madurai District Traders’ and Manufacturers’ Association Joint Action Committee has made a plea for the withdrawal of service tax imposed by Madurai Corporation. The Committee, representing 38 associations, in its meeting held here, passed a resolution requesting Mayor Rajan Chellappa to withdraw the imposition of service tax on all commercial establishments with in the Corporation area.
SP Jeyapragasam, President, the Tamilnadu Foodgrains Merchants Association, said that all office-bearers were of the view that a plethora of taxes are being paid to the local body, state and central governments. The imposition of the new service tax would affect further the livelihood of manufacturers and traders in Madurai.
