The Thiruvananthapuram city corporation council has passed a resolution that envisages setting up of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for owning and operating a fleet of low-floor buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
The new entity, which will have on board representatives of the State Government, the local body and the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, will decide on which routes to ply as also fares thereof.
Creation of such a committee was originally stipulated in the guidelines but was not acted upon until now.
Further discussions on the matter will be held with Minister for Transport Aryadan Mohammed and officials of the State transport utility.
