India’s third largest IT outsourcer Wipro has sought speedy clearance for its third SEZ project from the Karnataka Government.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji met the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddamaraiah on Tuesday to formally request him to speed up certain clearances.

The company has 35,000 employees across two campuses – one in Electronic City and the other on Sarjapur road in Doddakannelli.

It is looking to expand its presence in the city by opting for a third campus. The land for the project is in possession with the company but now is seeking approvals from the State Government.

Premji told the Chief Minister, “I am writing to you requesting intervention of your good offices for timely approval for the project from respective statutory bodies.”

25,000 jobs “We are building another IT SEZ campus in Kodathi on Sarjapur road. This campus is designed to have 25,000 employees in its first phase. The campus will be LEED certified building with innovative engineering practices built into design and planned for completion in 30 months,” he added.

“The project is in the approval phase, awaiting a host of clearances from the Government bodies like environment approval, development plan sanction, building plan sanction, pollution control approval, etc. The development plan is pending with the BDA since December 2013.”

Chief Minister Siddamaraiah told reporters after the meeting that he will look into the request positively.
