Agents and customers of Agrigold staged a dharna here on Wednesday, seeking steps to recover their money. Using a network of agents in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other Southern States, the firm collected crores of rupees, promising good returns. It, however, faltered in repayment, leaving thousands of small investors in distress.
About 300 agitators gathered at the Dharna Chowkhere, and demanded payment of compensation.
“We demand the government to auction about 1,200 acres of Agrigold’s land in the State and pay us back our deposits,” Andalu Ramesh Babu, President of Telangana Agrigold Customers and Agents Welfare Association, said. In a memorandum to the government, the association wanted the government to probe about 200 shell companies the group has promoted.
