Andhra Pradesh, which has been ranked number one in the country in ease of doing business, is gearing to hold the second partnership summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here early next year, probably in February.

The ranking was announced in New Delhi on Monday, giving a shot in the arm to the state in its bid to attract more investment into the state.

Earlier summit Earlier this year in January, the summit was held here for three days and investments proposals for projects worth more than ₹4.5 lakh crore were received. Buoyed by the success of the summit, the State government and the CII decided that the 2017 summit would also be held here.

In a recent review meeting here on the business proposals received in the last partnership summit, State Chief Secretary SP Tucker issued instructions to officials to speed up the work on the projects and get them off the ground before the next summit begins. For projects in Visakhapatnam district, 26 MoUs were signed by different private and public sector companies with the state government entailing an investment of ₹46,343 crore, generating employment of 43,400.

One of the major projects is the establishment of a naval ship-building unit by Reliance (Anil Ambani group) near Nakkapalli at a cost of ₹5,000 crore initially. The state Cabinet took a decision last week allocating land for the project.

Tourism sector The tourism sector in the district attracted ₹1,000 crore investment from different private companies at the summit.

A Ramalinga Raju, general manager of the district industries centre, has said all the issues are being resolved and the path cleared for the projects. Special programmes are being undertaken for skill development. It is expected that the state may attract more investment in the next partnership summit than it did in the first.
