Vermeiren India Rehab, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Belgium based Vermeiren Group N.V. laid foundation stone for its production unit for rehabilitation equipment at Sri City on Friday.
Marking the start of construction, the plant will produce rehabilitation equipment, such as wheelchairs, walker aids, patient beds, etc.
Patrick Vermeiren, CEO, Vermeiren Group in a statement said, “We preferred to set up the plant in Sri City as it offers good infrastructure, and its proximity to international air and sea ports will facilitate our exports. When the facility becomes operational, we anticipate a reduction in lead times for supply to our customers in India, the Middle East, Europe and the greater Asia-Pacific region.”
Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director, Sri City said, “Advantages of setting up units in Sri City are manifold as it is at the core of emerging markets in South India. Many more MNCs will prefer Sri City due to its strategic location, infrastructure, and availability of skilled hands and large extent of developed land.”
Vermeiren established its production plant in Belgiumin 1957, and subsequently set up production units at Poland and China. With a wide network of distributors and agents, Vermeiren's products are available all over the world.
The plant will be built in phases on a 9-acre plot. In the phase one, Rs 100 crore will be invested where 200 people would be employed.
