The Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam Party have come closer towards forming an alliance for the forthcoming polls to the Assembly and Lok Sabha.
Indications are that they are likely to make a formal announcement on Ugadi (March 31), the Telugu New Year day.
With senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar camping here and holding talks with TDP representatives, some of the issues relating to seat-sharing have been sorted out, while others are getting addressed, though no formal announcement has been made as the approval from both the party leadership is awaited. While both the party representatives are tight-lipped, sources confirmed that the pact has been formalised and is likely to be announced after approval by the BJP central leadership and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
The alliance structure for Seemandhra was formalised with the BJP likely to contest about 18 Assembly and 4-5 Lok Sabha seats, of the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats, respectively.
However, the seat sharing process was struck due to BJP’s keenness to assume a bigger role in Telangana.
