The BJP has had little or no presence in Tripura in the past, but the party is set to form the next government in the north-eastern State, party chief Amit Shah said on Tuesday.

Addressing party workers after offering prayers at the Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, around 100 km from Mangaluru, Shah attributed his confidence to two reasons: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pan-India popularity, and the power of the booth-level party worker.

It was based on this two-pronged approach that the party had won Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Assam. In some of these places, victory had once looked impossible.

He urged the Nava Shakti workers (nine workers from each booth) to treat this action plan as their ‘Bhagavad Gita’. “Don’t fight the election at constituency level, but fight it at booth level. You will win.”

Shah said Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government could not work on the State’s development as it was bogged down by development.

He accused Siddaramaiah’s government of indulging in the politics of appeasement and vote bank.

Referring to a recent incident in which the son of a Bengaluru MLA was held for a brawl, Shah said the complaint was not taken up despite the attack on the victim. It is not just because the accused is the son of an MLA; it is also because of the vote-bank politics of the Siddaramaiah government, he said.

To Siddaramaiah’s query to the Centre asking the for details of funds released for development work in Karnataka, Shah said the State had got ₹88,583 crore, when the UPA and the 13th Finance Commission existed. The Modi government had given the State ₹2.19 lakh-crore. He wondered if the additional ₹1.3 lakh-crore had been spent by the Congress’ ministers.
