The Madras High Court on Tuesday stayed a Tamil Nadu government order sanctioning the prosecution of Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Vijayakant for his alleged defamatory speech against minister K P Munusamy at a public meeting last year.
Passing the interim order on a petition by the DMDK leader and actor-politician challenging the defamation proceedings, Justice K Venkataraman stayed the government order.
The November 11, 2012 order had contended that Vijayakant, while addressing a meeting in Dharmapuri on August 20, 2012, made certain remarks against the Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister which were ‘defamatory’.
