Transport Minister Aryadan Mohammed has said that demands with respect to autorickshaw fare revision voiced by representatives of trade unions at a meeting at his chamber will be presented to the State Cabinet. The unions have been demanding that minimum charge be raised to Rs 15. Justice Ramachandran commission had suggested that a distance of 1.5 km be taken as the minimum unit for purposes of fixing new fares. But the trade unions did not agree with this. The Cabinet had already fixed minimum fare at Rs 14 after tinkering with the Ramachandran commission-mandated minimum unit of 1.5 km down to 1.25 km. Still, reasonable demands of the unions would be brought to the attention of the Cabinet, the Minister said.
