Fire at New Secretariat building in Kolkata

A fire broke out at the eighth floor of the New Secretariat building in the city around 11.00 am today. Twenty fire tenders have been pressed into action to douse the flames.

The high-rise houses several important government departments such as the Panchayat Department and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Transport Department offices, Public Health and Engineering (PHE), amongst others.

It also houses Panchayat Minister, Subrata Mukherjee and Transport Minister, Madan Mitra's offices.

People have been evacuated from the building. There have been no reports of any death so far.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
