The Election Commission will hold a hearing on the AIADMK's "two leaves" symbol dispute today. The electoral body had issued notices to all the parties to the dispute -- E. Madhusudhanan, O. Panneerselvam, V.K. Sasikala, who is currently lodged in Bengaluru jail, and TTV Dinakaran. The Madras High Court has directed the Commission to decide, by October 31, which faction of the party would be allotted the “two leaves” symbol. Meanwhile, AIADMK (Amma) faction leader TTV Dhinakaran has sought extension of the HC's October 31 deadline on the party symbol dispute case to February 28 next year and the Madras High Court bench has reserved its order on the impleading petition.

The GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, will meet in New Delhi today. The council will deliberate on GSTN glitches and issues faced by exporters. Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar will hold a brainstorming session with officials, exporters and industry bodies to identify measures to boost the sector which is facing liquidity challenges after the GST regime kicked in. The rupee's volatility has added to the sector's woes.

The FIFA Under-17 World Cup kicks off in New Delhi today. The World Cup will be played across six cities with the finals on 28th. Three teams are making their debut in this India edition — Niger, New Caledonia as well as hosts India. India will take on the CONCACAF under-16 runner-up, USA, in the opening encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The United States, which has participated in 15 of the 16 U-17 World Cups, is expected to pose a formidable challenge.

India and the European Union will hold their 14th summit talks during which both sides are expected to discuss a host of key issues including ways to remove hurdles for the long- pending free trade agreement. The summit last year had failed to make any headway on resumption of long- stalled negotiations for a FTA. Launched in June 2007, the negotiations for the proposed EU-India Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement have witnessed many hurdles with both sides having major differences on crucial issues like intellectual property rights and duty cut in automobile and spirits sectors.

Ericsson India's insolvency petition against Reliance Communications will come up for hearing at tThe National Company Law Tribunal. The company has sought recovery of ₹491.41 crore. Ericsson has also filed similar petitions against RCom subsidiaries Reliance Infratel and Reliance Telecom for recovery of ₹534.75 crore and ₹129.34 crore, respectively.
