The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lashed out at the glorification of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, by a right-wing fringe organisation. It has demanded registration of a criminal case against those who put up such posters, which it said, was “clearly aimed at disrupting communal harmony and peace in the National Capital.”

In a statement, AAP also flayed the fringe organisation for putting up posters in the National Capital to highlight the shameful deed of one of its activists, who had tried to create communal tension by spreading rumours about Kerala House.

“It is beyond any reasonable understanding that how an individual or an organisation can make a nonsensical public statement about glorifying the role of Godse and can get away with it. Not only has the role of Nathuram Godse been glorified in posters of Hindu Mahasabha, the name of the individual who spread baseless and false rumours about food (read beef) served at the Kerala House has also been mentioned,” AAP said.

Targeting the Delhi Police, which is under the Home Ministry, the party said the “impartiality of Delhi Police is under test in the eyes of the public and it must act without any delay against such nefarious elements.”

The AAP government has been at loggerheads with the Delhi Police, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

AAP said the activities of Hindu Mahasabha, which operates from the heart of New Delhi, need to be immediately curbed, adding that “absurd” statements from organisations, such as Hindu Mahasabha “have been on the rise since the BJP came to power at the Centre in May last year”

“The silence of BJP’s Central government only appears to be encouraging their nefarious designs,” the party added.
