Gunasheela Fertility Centre, the Bengaluru-based fertility centre and a wing of Gunasheela Surgical & Maternity Hospital has launched ‘Gunasheela Genomics Centre for Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)’.
The centre will offer for the first time a technology of Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) – a procedure designed to examine embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before implantation.
The PGS protocol is a comprehensive chromosome screening technique using highly sophisticated technology, the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platform (Ion Torrent).
NGS technology aims to improve pregnancy & live birth rates by screening the embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. It is the first time in India that a private infertility centre has an in-house genomics laboratory providing PGS on the NGS Platform, with the fastest turn around time for the results and also the most cost effective.
Dr Devika Gunasheela, Managing Director, Gunasheela Fertility Centre, said, “Technology has paved way to ensure hassle free and healthy birthing. Having been at the forefront of introducing many cutting edge protocols for several decades, we want to maintain this legacy and Gunasheela Genomics is yet another pioneering attempt in our endeavor to offer contemporary technology related birthing services. Through this venture we will offer PGS which is a boon particularly for advanced maternal age couples and families who have had recurrent pregnancy losses both naturally and through IVF.”
