Tension mounts in Hyderabad as the winter session of Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council begins on Friday amidst the ‘Chalo Assembly’ call given by the Congress Party.

The Congress has called for the protest march to highlight the farmers’ issues and the TRS government’s “anti-farmer policies.”

CM’s promise

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly, which met here on Thursday, has decided to hold the session for 50 days. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao agreed to discuss each and every issue raised by various Opposition party legislators.

“We are ready to extend the session still further, if need be, to discuss all the points raised by them,” the Chief Minister reportedly told the BAC.

The committee has decided to extend the Question Hour by 30 minutes to 90 minutes. The session will last for three hours from 10 am to 1 pm every day, barring holidays.

Congress charge

Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress party has alleged that the government is resorting to the arrest of its leaders across the State to scuttle the protest march. .

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy condemned the undemocratic arrests of its activists. Demanding their immediate release, he criticised the government for resorting to repression to stonewall the protest march.

“We are firm on holding the protest march tomorrow. We are protesting against the anti-farmer policies of the government. The government must compensate the farmers for the crop losses,” he said.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders, led by its President K Chandrasekhara Rao and Legislative Affairs and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, flayed the Opposition for trying to disrupt the session.
