The number of new Covid-19 infections are increasing by the day. On June 12, the spike in daily cases breached the 10,000-mark. Up to 10,956 new cases were recorded between June 11 and June 12, in just 24 hours.

On the previous day between June 10 and 11, up to 9,996 new cases were recorded, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) data.

For up to eight days, before this, from June 4, up till June 11, over 9000 new cases of Covid-19 were being recorded every day.

The total number of confirmed cases are now inching towards the three lakh mark and stood at 2,97,535 as on June 12. The doubling time for cases is close to 16 days now, as the tally stood at over 1.5 lakh cases on May 27.

MoHFW has stated that almost half of all confirmed cases, up to 1,47,195 (close to 49 per cent) have recovered from Covid-19, with 6,166 new recoveries added over the past 24 hours.

Another 8,498 patients have succumbed to the virus, with up to 396 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has the highest number of confirmed cases at 97,648, has recorded up to 3,607 new confirmed cases over the past 24 hours. While 46078 persons are said to be recovered, up to 1561 new recoveries, less than half of the new confirmed cases, have been recorded between June 11 and 12.

In Tamil Nadu, which has 38,716 cases, has added 1,875 new cases over the past 24 hours, and of the 20,705 total, recovered cases have seen up to 1,372 recoveries within a day.

Other high burden states include Delhi with 34,687 cases, Gujarat (22,032), Uttar Pradesh (12,088), Rajasthan (11,838) and Madhya Pradesh (10,241).
