The Makkal Needhi Maiam party’s ideology book will be released in six months, announced party founder and president Kamal Haasan here on Thursday.

“My intention is public welfare, and all my policies will be aimed at achieving that,” he said. This includes quality education and corruption free-and no-caste politics. He asserted he will not join hands with corrupt political parties nor encourage caste or religion-based ones.

Attending the party’ first public meeting in Chennai, Kamal Haasan said ideology and manifesto are not the same. “Manifesto may change for different reasons. But ideology, what you intend to do, should never change.

“To answer people’s question about what my ideology is, I will be releasing my party ideology in writing 180 days from now.

But people too have the obligation to question me or any other political party coming to power. It will make them focus on doing good for the people. So be vigilant and question me,” he added.

At the meeting coinciding with International Women’s Day, he said the party will adopt Adiganallur village in Tiruvallur district to revive water bodies. C Sumathi, one of theose who helped revive nine water bodies in her village of 3,500, was honoured.

“I want to replicate this across 12,500 villages in the State. For that, I’m offering my party’s support in her work,” the actor-turned-politician said.
