Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday flagged off the chalking out a detailed plan for the new State, to be ready in two to three months.

He gave the broad contours of the plan at a meeting with his cabinet members, senior bureaucrats, officials, district collectors and revenue officers.

While some of the existing schemes and policies would be retained, the CM said a new approach would have to be drawn up in the context of Telangana as a State. The process will begin with village level plans, which will be consolidated at the district level and then the state level. “Let this process take two or three months. What we are preparing is the foundation for the State. Any flaws would reflect badly for the State,” Rao said.

On irrigation, he said the government would spend ₹100 crore for each district to start with, to revamp the minor irrigation tanks. Also, all irrigation projects will compulsorily have 10-15 per cent of their capacities reserved for drinking water.

Rao announced a crackdown on those involved in housing scams. “In a random survey of 593 villages, we saw over ₹2.35 crore being drawn from the government for housing schemes, which do not exist. Even if there are my kith or kin involved, I will send them to jail,” he said.
