Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has advised Konkan Railway to promote the sale of local produce of the Konkan region through the catering stalls at various stations.

A press release from the Konkan Railway Corporation said here on Thursday that the Minister wanted Konkan products -- popularly called as ‘Konkani Meva’ that includes cashew nuts, Kokam juice, sweetmeats made of mango and jackfruit -- should be widely publicised and put up on sale at various stalls. He called for putting up more ‘Kokam stalls’ at major stations.

It said that the Minister also instructed that exclusive stalls and restaurants be planned at major stations selling only Maharashtrian cuisine items in general and Konkani cuisine in particular.

Konkan Railway is making plans to implement the instructions of the Minister. It is planning to have an exclusive catering stall and restaurant at Ratnagiri station for Konkani cuisine, the release added.
