Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs and Promoters Association (KREEPA) will form clusters of member companies to make available high quality components in collaboration with a German technology partner.
The German firm Effekta has agreed for the technology transfer and a MoU in this regard will soon be signed by the Association to manufacture inverters, controllers etc with European efficiency, George Peter Pittapillil, President, KREEPA said.
The manufacturing facility will be set up either at the upcoming Electronics Park at Amballur or Industrial Park at Cherthala and the pilot project will be operational within three months after the signing of MoU, he told reporters here on Friday.
In its efforts to revive the solar energy sector in Kerala, KREEPA has plans to set up mini grid based solar power plant in rural villages with long-term operation and maintenance contract. The idea, he said, is to provide solar powered electrification for 100 homes in interior Palakkad. Discussions are in progress with the government and KSEB in this regard.
Quoting an agency study, Sunil Ramakrishnan, Joint Secretary pointed out that the potential for solar power in Kerala is estimated at 25 GW (giga watt) and only 10 MW has been generated in the State over a period of five years. Compared to neighbouring States, Kerala is lagging behind in tapping solar power with the State’s contribution in MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) project for 2014-15 was zero against 50 MW for Andhra Pradesh and 15 MW for Tamil Nadu.
