Eminent jurist VR Krishna Iyer, who died on Thursday aged 99, was cremated with full State honours at the public crematorium at Ravipuram here on Friday evening.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, his Cabinet colleagues, former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, several MLAs, and prominent citizens from different walks of life were present.
Earlier, his body was kept for public viewing and streams of mourners paid their last respects. Courts and educational institutions in Kochi were closed on Friday as a mark of respect. Kochi had been Iyer’s permanent home since 1982.
