Telangana Industries Minister, KT Rama Rao, has called upon cement companies to bring down the prices of cement in the State.

Responding to his request, representatives of the cement companies who participated in the meeting, said they would discuss internally before making a decison.

The meeting was held today by KT Rama Rao, Minister Prashant Reddy, State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and representatives of the cement companies.

The State’s request comes in the backdrop of cement prices going up significantly, by about 40-50 per cent after the Covid-19 lockdown, causing concerns for the construction sector and the government as a big chunk of projects are that of the State government covering irrigation, roads, buildings and significantly two-bedroom houses.

Responding to the State’s request, the cement companies agreed to supply cement at ₹230 per bag to the affordable two-bedroom housing being taken up by the State. They also assured that the price would be the same for this segment for the next three years.

The Minister said that training facility will be provided by the National Academy of Construction to provide skilled youth for employment in the cement sector. This facility will be supported by the sector, representatives from the cement industry said.
