Don’t be surprised if your friend’s phone sings Main Bhi Chowkidar Hun .

Many subscribers of Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea are opting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll campaign phrase as caller tunes.

Modi had launched the Main Bhi Chowkidar campaign last week, putting a ‘Chowkidar’ as a prefix to his Twitter handle. The trend caught on with many of his Cabinet and party colleagues following suit.

“You may now make #MainBhiChowkidar song as your Caller Tune,” said the BJP’s Twitter handle on Tuesday, adding details of the dial-in numbers of operators such as Airtel, Vodafone and Jio to get the tune.

Nominal charges

Confirming the development, the operators said any subscriber can make Main Bhi Chowkidar Hun his/her caller tune for nominal charges.

However, State-run BSNL is not offering the service, for it may violate the Model Code of Conduct.

Vodafone charges ₹15 (for 90 days) for selecting a caller tune plus ₹36 per month. Airtel charges ₹15 for selection and ₹30 for a ‘hello tune’ every month thereafter. Jio, however, does not charge anything for ‘JioTunes’, and is not charging anything for Main Bhi Chowkidar Hun either.

The PM’s campaign is much discussed nationwide, with the Congress accusing the ‘Chowkidar’ of stealing jobs.

Meanwhile, Modi, in his address to 2.50 lakh watchmen on Wednesday, said that people across the country are taking a pledge to become ‘Chowkidars’ as it is becoming synonymous with patriotism and honesty.
