Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will take the help of industrial units to repair the road from Surathkal in the city to the refinery of MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd).

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Hari Nath, Mayor of Mangaluru, said that the 4.5-km stretch of road from Surathkal to MRPL is in poor condition.

In a recent meeting with the industrial units who use the road every day, it was decided to repair the road. MCC and the industrial units in that area have agreed to contribute their share for the repair of the road. As a result of this, MCC will contribute 30 per cent for the repair of the road. The remaining amount will be shared by various industrial units in that area, he said, adding that a tender will be called for repairing the road this week.

He said that MCC has taken steps to make solid waste management more efficient in the city. As a part of this, all the citizens and commercial establishments in the city will have to segregate the solid waste and hand it over to the contractor who has been assigned the task of solid waste management in the city.

Wet solid waste, including kitchen waste, will be collected every day in the city. However, the dry solid waste will be collected once in a week. MCC has prepared a time-table for collecting dry solid waste from different wards in the city. A vehicle meant for collecting dry solid waste will visit the wards concerned once in a week to collect it, he said. Urging the citizens to segregate the solid waste at source, the Mayor said solid waste will not be collected if the citizens fail to adhere to this.
