Nivedith Alva, who has produced television shows such as Indian Idol and Roadies, assumed charge as Chairman of Karnataka Coastal Development Authority in Mangaluru on Thursday.

Alva, who was the Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, is the son of the Congress leader Margaret Alva.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru after assuming charge, he said the State government led by Siddaramaiah has given a platform for youths like him to work and to get administrative experience.

Stating that he has got a chance to work for the development of the three coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, he said his experience as a television producer would help him in carrying out his job

. “Having worked and led teams of 300-400 people you have to lead by example. If you give your best to the task, you can produce results,” he said.

Asked about his plans for the authority, he said he is yet to study the scope of the authority as he got the letter of appointment only on Wednesday. He will tour the coastal districts to see what has already been done.

“I am planning to be on the road. I do not want to sit in the office,” he said.

He said he would work closely with the three district administrations.

Stressing the importance of social media in the development aspects, he said the social media reboot of the authority will happen in next two weeks or so. People can give their feedback and bring problems to the notice of the authority through social media.

“If you are not active on social media, you cannot interact. You get both positive and negative feedback on social media,” Alva said.

The website of the authority will also be updated, he added.
