A policeman was killed and two other persons were injured in an encounter with militants in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today, police said.
Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants in Kunzer village, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, a police official said.
He said a gun battle broke out when militants opened firing on the security forces, who retaliated.
“One policeman has been martyred while a civilian has been injured in the operation so far,” the official said.
Army sources said one soldier was also injured in the operation. The injured jawan, who received a bullet in the thigh, has been evacuated to Army’s 92 Base Hospital here, they said.
The target house has been cordoned off and a fierce exchange of firing is going on with the holed up militants who are believed to be at least two in number, the official said.
