Both the ruling BJP and the Opposition welcomed the announcement of the dates of general elections.

Wishing all political parties and candidates the very best, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the aim of all political parties must be the same — the development of India and empowerment of every Indian.

He claimed that the last five years have shown that what was earlier deemed impossible had now become possible.

“2019 polls are about a spirit of confidence and positivity with which India is fulfilling the aspirations of its people,” he said. BJP president Amit Shah called upon the people to turnout in record numbers and enhance the vibrancy of India’s electoral process.

“I urge 130 crore people of India to bless the BJP in the up-coming polls. Under the leadership of Modi, the NDA government has achieved phenomenal results in various spheres of governance,” he said.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said his party and the Opposition are united and are confident of defeating the Modi Government. “This government has failed to deliver on all of its poll promises including ₹15 lakh in each bank account, providing jobs to 2 crore youth per annum, providing security to women, increasing the income of farmers.

“In all sectors, the Modi Government has failed terribly. The government is desperately trying to cover up its failure through fake propaganda and event management. People of the country are aware about this dubious strategy of Modi government and this government has divided the people of the country through divisive policies and communal strategies,” he said.
