Indian politics today need more participation from women, according to Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry.
While speaking at an interactive session with members of Young FICCI Ladies Organisation held here on Saturday, Sitharaman observed that politics was not yet a first career preference for women.
Recounting her own experience, the Minister said: ``In my family, they asked me if I was sure to end up in politics. ’’
The youngsters today were looking at politics through different lenses, Sitharaman said adding that they were looking at serving the nation ``honestly.’’
When quizzed about her party’s landslide victory in the recent Uttar Pradesh elections, the she attributed it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign.
