BJP president Amit Shah has said his party not only admires but also follows the way shown by Adivasi leaders like Birsa Munda.

It is unfortunate that Dalit and Adivasi leaders who were part of the national movement did not get the respect they deserved, he added.

Attacking previous governments, he said in a blog post that their lopsided policies are the reasons for the lack of development in tribal areas. It was the Narendra Modi regime that brought “autonomous rule” to tribal areas in a true sense, he said.

The present government brought welfare schemes for tribals in 2014 along with a law to ensure that 10 per cent of royalty on the income made from minerals, which are mostly in areas inhabited by scheduled tribes, is spent on developing these places.

“Over ₹9,100 crore has been deposited in the District Mineral Foundation constituted for this purpose, he said.

He also claimed that in Gujarat, the BJP governments spent 14.75 per cent of the budgetary allocation on the development of tribals.
