Quantum of the Seas, a new cruise ship of Royal Caribbean International, anchored at Kochi Port on Thursday night.

Kochi is the only port of call in India as part of its 14-night voyage from Dubai to Singapore. The vessel left Friday evening for Penang.

With the resemblance of an apartment cluster, this 350-metre vessel with 18 decks is virtually a floating city having 18 different restaurants on board. The 167,800 gross registered tonne ship is the largest ever to call at any Indian port and with the highest number of guests on board, totalling close to 4,000 from around the world.

Traditional plaque exchanges were conducted with the ship’s Captain Srecko Ban and the Traffic Manager of the Cochin Port Trust, Unnikrishnan Nair.

Ban said the second largest cruise vessel in the Quantum class has introduced many firsts-at-sea features. The Quantum class is the next generation of cruise ships filled with innovation in entertainment, technology and culinary delights for guests on the high seas.

To a question, he said the tariff would be in the range of $200 to $1,000 a day, depending on the season.

“It is a quantum of happiness for Kochi Port when the Quantum of the Seas anchored at the port”, said the port’s Traffic Manager citing the number of initiatives taken by the port to attract more number of cruise vessels to the port.

Keki Master, Senior Vice-President, J.M.Baxi, the ship’s agent in Kochi Port said that cruise tourism in India is still at infancy stage and the government’s efforts to revive it are expected to give it a push in the coming years.

Tirun Travel Marketing is the exclusive India representative for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd with a portfolio of three of its cruise brands. Ratna Chadha, the company’s Chief Executive said that the introduction of its new vessel is expected to unleash a new wave of excitement.
