The training programme for fitters and electricians at the Textiles Technical Training Institute established by the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) jointly with PSG Institutions at Nilambur commenced today.
According to SIMA Chairman T Rajkumar, the first four-ay programme for spinning preparatory fitters would cover all the machines, accessories, and equipments. Candidates enrolled for the programme will be the first batch to undergo such training.
Faculty from the PSG College of Technology and professionals from Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd, VETAL, Lakshmi Card Clothing, Habasit Lakoka, Textech, Voltas, SKF, and ATE would train the technicians, he said.
Hailing LMW for donating the entire range of plant and machinery for the pilot mill located at Nilambur and PSG institutions for the effort, the SIMA chief appealed to manufacturers of textile machinery, spares and equipments, accessories, textile mills and technocrats to use the services provided by the institute to upgrade the skill of their technicians.
Emphasising the need for such a facility, he said “the industry is facing acute shortage of labour and more so of technicians –mechanical, electrical and electronics. With projects becoming highly capital intensive, such training would help upgrade the skills of the technicians.”
