The State government is planning free and direct recruitment of nurses for jobs abroad, Minister for Labour and Skills Shibu Baby John has said.

“During a preliminary round of discussions with the Kuwaiti government, it has been decided that employers shall bear the recruitment charges,” the Minister said while releasing the brochure and prospectus of the Nursing Institute of Career Enhancement, a centre for excellence under the Kerala Academy of Skill Excellence, here on Thursday.

The institute will begin functioning at the Kinfra Apparel Park near here on May 20. It aims to provide world-class training to nurses for jobs abroad.

The Trivandrum Specialists Hospital of the NMC Health Care Group, which has a hospital network in West Asia, will lead the training sessions and recruitments for the institute.

The nursing institute has decided to sign an agreement with government-sponsored recruitment agencies such as Odepec and Norka.

Entrance test

Trivandrum Specialists Hospital CEO and Managing Director Sudhakar Jayram said that up to seven per cent of nurses from here passed the qualifying examinations in the Gulf countries.

Candidates with a nursing degree and two years of experience in healthcare industry are eligible for admission into the new institute.

Entry will be based on qualification, written test and interview. The entrance test will be conducted in the second week of May at various centres in the State.

Those interested can either apply online through www.niceacademy.net or submit application at the SUT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Total course fee will be ₹78,000. Those qualifying from the institute can take up foreign assignments by September.
