The first Legislative Assembly of Telangana Government has been dissolved. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and his cabinet will continue as caretaker government.

Eight months and 26 days before expiry of his 5-year term, Rao decided to dissolve the 119 Member Legislative Assembly, got his cabinet approval and submitted the resolution to the Governor amidst high speculation and activity.

In a notification, Governor ESL Narasimhan said, “Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhara Rao and his council of ministers to continue in office as a Caretaker Government of Telangana."

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has 90 members while the opposition Cong (I) has 13, MIM -7; BJP-5; TDP-3 in the dissolved Assembly.

All eyes will now be on the Election Commission, which has to take a final date on holding the early elections and the appropriate dates. The KCR Government was sworn into office on June 2, 2014. The TRS Party bagged 63 seats in the elections.

After seeking and getting the nod from Governor E S L Narasimhan on Thursday, K Chandrasekhara Rao said only two sitting MLAs were denied their seats and with regard to five others discussions were on. “I will take a call on the remaining seats in the next one week,” he said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday after meeting the Governor, he indicated that elections will be held soon, along with the polls scheduled in States like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

“The process may begin in October and elections may be held in November. The results will be out in December.  We have conducted about 15 surveys and assessment of party leaders, we have taken this decision. We have intimated our decision to the candidates. We are going to meet them in the evening,” he said.

The TRS is kicking off election campaign on Friday in Husnabad.

Telangana formed after six decades of struggle and sacrifices. "There was confusion in the first six months after we assumed charge. Because we were not in power prior to the formation of the state and there was no basis on the financial front, there was some confusion,” he said.

“Our growth rate in the last four years was 17.17 per cent and the first five months of the present financial year, the State clocked a growth of 21.96 per cent. This endorses our growth model,” he said. Ridiculing criticism on irrigation and drinking water projects, he said it reflected utter lack of understanding.

Blaming the Congress for its 'criminal negligence' of the State in the last 50 years, he said the State had to start from the scratch and plan the big irrigation projects. The State suffered heavily because of power cuts for over 35 years.
